Increasing Demand for Transfusions, Tugure Routinely Holds Blood Donation Events with PMI

JAKARTA (17/06/2025) – In commemoration of World Blood Donor Day, which falls on June 14, PT Tugu Reasuransi Indonesia (Tugure) once again held its routine social activity entitled “Tugure Blood Donation: Donate Your Blood for Sustainable Life.” Collaborating with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of the DKI Jakarta Province, Tugure successfully collected 152 bags of blood through the event. This initiative serves as a tangible manifestation of the Company’s commitment to sustainability, humanitarian efforts, and support for the national healthcare system.

This blood donation initiative is no longer merely symbolic, but a real action in support of sustainable life. Amid the growing demand for blood, the availability of blood bags has become a vital foundation for modern healthcare services.

Isac Kharist Tahtawira, Head of Partnerships and Cooperation at PMI DKI Jakarta Province, explained that the demand for blood in Jakarta reaches 1,000 bags per day. He also noted that PMI, in collaboration with the Indonesian Ministry of Health, is currently preparing a strategic project on blood fractionation – a process of separating blood components, particularly plasma, to obtain albumin. Albumin is the main protein in plasma with various essential functions for the body, and is a high-value medical product needed for patients with severe injuries, heavy bleeding, or long-term medical needs.

“One contributing factor to the increasing demand for blood is the number of births via surgery, which tend to require more blood. Although albumin derived from plasma fractionation does not replace the entire need for transfusions, its proper utilization can help optimize the use of blood components, thereby reducing the demand for whole blood transfusions,” Isac concluded.

Tugure’s Technical Director, R. Djoko Slamet Prasetiyo, shared that his personal experience of struggling to find blood bags served as a reminder that blood donation is a real necessity, not just a CSR initiative.

“This is not merely about branding. I’ve been in a situation where I had to search for blood bags and I know how difficult it can be. A single drop of blood means so much to others. May the blood donated today bring hope and life to those in need,” said Djoko.

In addition to donating blood, Tugure also contributed a humanitarian donation of IDR 20 million to PMI DKI Jakarta Province as a real form of concern and support for PMI’s humanitarian mission. This donation is expected to help strengthen blood services and ensure the availability of blood stock in Jakarta.

Djoko also responded positively to PMI DKI Jakarta’s hope for a future collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tugure. He stated that such an MoU could serve as a more concrete form of support for the availability of blood bags in Jakarta.

Through this blood donation initiative, Tugure affirms that sustainability is not only about numbers and business growth, but also about how we show up and give life to others. For behind every drop of donated blood lies hope, strength, and priceless compassion.
