Tugure Strengthens Logistics Risk Awareness Amid Industry Growth, Unlocks New Opportunities Through

TOBA, June 5th 2026 - The rapid growth of Indonesia’s logistics industry, driven by increasing trade activities and increasingly complex global supply chains, has created both new opportunities and challenges for industry players. As the complexity of cargo transportation continues to evolve, the need for more comprehensive risk protection has become increasingly essential.

In response to this growing need, PT Tugu Reasuransi Indonesia (Tugure), through Tugure Academy, organized a sharing session titled "Freight Forwarder Liability Insurance vs. Marine Cargo Insurance: Understanding the Difference & Business Opportunity." The session served as a knowledge-sharing platform to discuss the evolving risks within the logistics industry while exploring insurance solutions that provide optimal protection for both freight forwarders and cargo owners.

Held in Toba, North Sumatra, the event was attended by 26 of Tugure’s business partners from the insurance industry as part of the company's ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration and foster long-term business relationships. Beyond the sharing session, the program also featured leisure activities designed to create a more engaging, collaborative, and meaningful networking experience among participants.

PT Tugu Reasuransi Indonesia’s Marine and Aviation Group Head, Jansen Kamedansen Siregar, emphasized the importance of understanding the distinct roles of Marine Cargo Insurance and Freight Forwarder Liability Insurance to ensure that insurance protection is appropriately aligned with each business's specific risk profile.

"Protection for cargo and protection against legal liabilities serve different purposes. Understanding these differences is essential to delivering insurance solutions that accurately address the unique risk exposures of each business," said Jansen.

During the presentation, Tugure also shared a reinsurance perspective on the evolving risk landscape within the marine cargo and freight forwarding sectors. Risks today extend beyond transportation activities alone, encompassing operational processes, warehousing, supply chain disruptions, climate-related events, and increasing reliance on third-party service providers.

Tugure Marine Underwriter, Riski Vanra Risni Tarigan, explained that the marine cargo business is currently facing challenges due to increasingly intense rate competition within the reinsurance market. Consequently, Tugure sees significant opportunities to develop new business within the broader logistics ecosystem, particularly through Freight Forwarder Liability Insurance.

"Freight Forwarder Liability Insurance offers considerable market potential as demand for protection against increasingly complex logistics and supply chain operations continues to grow," said Riski.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Berly Sofianto, Marine Division Manager of PT Axis International Adjuster, noted that the rapid expansion of digital commerce and e-commerce has significantly increased demand for logistics services while simultaneously expanding freight forwarders' responsibilities toward their customers' cargo.

According to Berly, freight forwarders face a wide range of risks, including cargo loss or damage, documentation errors, shipment delays, and potential legal claims filed by cargo owners.

Through this initiative, Tugure reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with its business partners while supporting the insurance industry's broader understanding of effective risk management in an increasingly complex and dynamic logistics environment.
