Mitigating Heart Disease Claims: Tugure Initiates Visit to the National Heart Institute

Kuala Lumpur – Heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death in Indonesia, with the number of cases continuing to rise each year. This puts significant pressure on health insurance companies that must contend with high claim costs, particularly for heart disease, which requires intensive care and advanced medical technology.

Many insurance companies are now facing the challenge of maintaining competitive premiums while still providing adequate services to policyholders. Finding solutions to reduce heart disease claims has become crucial for the sustainability of health insurance businesses in Indonesia.

In an effort to address the high volume of claims and provide reinsurance services, PT Tugu Reasuransi Indonesia (Tugure), through Tugure Academy, is committed to enhancing education quality for its business partners by organizing a visit to the National Heart Institute (Institut Jantung Negara, IJN) in Malaysia on September 12, 2024.

The visit involved 12 representatives from life insurance companies, including Asuransi Cakrawala Proteksi, Heksa Solution Insurance, Perta Life Insurance, and other insurers. The goal was to gain insights into heart health care in Malaysia.

The session, opened by Tugure's Group Head of Life, Dr. Kiki Oditya, highlighted that approximately 30% of insurance claims in Indonesia are related to cardiovascular diseases. In response to this concerning trend, Tugure Academy organized the visit as a benchmarking activity to explore the facilities and expertise at IJN, aimed at helping insurance companies mitigate risks and control claim costs.

Tugure's Financial Director, Dradjat Irwansyah, emphasized that this visit is part of the company's commitment to sharing knowledge and enhancing reinsurance services through Tugure Academy.

"This activity is important to provide insights into international standards of service, which we hope will be valuable in mitigating the risks of heart disease claims," he stated.

Akim Affandi, Head of Marketing at IJN, provided a comprehensive overview of IJN's services, mentioning that IJN handles over 30 heart-related conditions, employing a workforce of 2,565, including 180 highly trained doctors.

"At IJN, our focus is not just on treatment, but also on training competent doctors, ensuring that the care we provide is both effective and efficient for our patients," said Akim.

He also added that regulations in Malaysia ensure that healthcare costs remain affordable, with strict oversight on medical procedures and services.

The visit to IJN underscores Tugure Academy’s mission to provide valuable insights to its partners in the insurance industry through interactive discussions with experts in their fields.

Tubagus Sehabuddin Aceh, Manager of Health Insurance at Asuransi Cakrawala Proteksi, noted that the activity not only provided new knowledge but also opened opportunities for collaboration with international healthcare facilities.

"We see the potential to enhance service for our policyholders by collaborating with institutions like IJN, which maintain high standards in heart care," Tubagus said.
